Without checking the official MDA record books, it’s a pretty safe bet that ten representatives on show today in Players Championship 16 is the most.

The absence of many, including all four who were in action at the Premier League climax in Berlin the previous night, opened the door for Girvan, Sedlacek, Burton and Burgoyne to go and have a bat.

And four of the boys progressed handsomely into the last 32 which included some stand out performances, in particular from the young guns.

Nathan Girvan is showing why he is a great bet for a tour card next year. The 19-year Scot has already demonstrated emphatically how he can mix it with the big boys and impressively picked up two more scalps today.

In what was a high quality match between two of the finest youth players on planet darts, Girvan edged out Danny Jansen 6-4 in a contest where both averaged north of a ton.

The teenager then went to on to overcome Ross Smith 6-3 before frustratingly losing out in a last leg decider against Stephen Bunting.

If we are talking young darts players with the world at their feet, then we must mention the other Nathan wearing MDA colours – Mr Rafferty.

Despite dominating proceedings on the Development Tour this year, Raff has struggled a little on the senior tour. So he will be especially delighted to grab a couple of very tidy wins this afternoon in Niedernhausen.

Either sporting a new hairstyle or a shower under talcum powder, the Northern Irishman took out Martijn Kleermaker 6-4 averaging a tidy 97.07 before getting the better of Mickey Mansell.

Unfortunately for Nathan, he then ran into a rampant Michael Smith and couldn’t replicate his earlier form, eventually going down 6-2 to Bullyboy.

Absolutely nothing wrong with how Daryl Gurney played today. He opened up with back to back wins over a pair of Spaniards. Jose Justicia was first to fall with Superchin edging an exciting 6-4 contest.

Then he blew Tony Martinez out of the water with a sublime whitewash and a 103.66 average to boot.

And the two time PDC major winner can consider himself extremely unfortunate to be pipped to the post by Chris Dobey in their board final.

Daryl’s 94.88 average in that match topped Dobey’s 92.76 but it was the Geordie who took the all important last leg in a thrilling encounter.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Ricky Evans made up the quartet of MDA lads reaching the last 32. The Kettering arrow-smith has been in fine fettle this year and once again demonstrated how a McFlurry is ideal preparation for a weekend on the pro-tour.

The self proclaimed ginger hunk coasted past Jeff Smith 6-1 before defeating German, Ricardo Pietreczko with consecutive mid 90s averages.

Ironically, he managed to up that average against Dirk van Duijvenbode in the board final but the Dutchman was on fire and rattled in a 101.31 of his own to take a 6-3 win.
