Whilst the trio of Players Championship events didn’t bring success to MDA, Jamie Hughes can be very satisfied with his week in Barnsley.

The Boy from the Black Country managed to qualify for both the World Series of Darts Finals and the Belgian Darts Open which take place next month.

In the opening tournament of the week, Hughes opened up his account extremely impressively by emphatically defeating Scott Waites 6-1 and posting a 103.47 average.

That was followed up by another healthy display in a 6-4 victory over Max Hopp before sealing qualification for Belgium with another sensational 6-1 win, this time over Ryan Joyce with an average just north of a ton.

Later in the week, Yozza then secured his spot in Amsterdam for the World Series of Darts Finals with the concession of just five legs.

Three wins was enough for Hughes to be amongst the eight players joining the invitees in Holland next month. First to fall was Stephen Bunting with a scoreline of 5-3 before seeing off Peter Hudson.

The passage was sealed with a 5-0 whitewash over Niels Zonnerveld and his best average of the day, 93.94.

Daryl Gurney also successfully negotiated the qualification process to book his spot for the Gibraltar Darts Trophy.

Due to his seeding, the Northern Irish ace only had two games to get the job done and duly obliged with wins over Joe Murnan and Raymond van Barneveld. The latter being a highly impressive display over the five time World Champion, averaging 99.16 in a 6-3 win.
